What Matters
what matters--emergency preparedness:
As the leader in coordinating resources to meet the human service needs of our community,
United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County is at the forefront of a coalition of local programs distributing informational flyers about the Pandemic Flu, often called Avian Flu or Bird Flu.  United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County, The American Red Cross and the Carlisle Area Health and Wellness Foundation will be holding community meetings to discuss family preparedness issues.  Please check back often to learn when a meeting will be held in your area.  In the meantime, click on this link to Cumberland County Chapter, American Red Cross’ informational page about pandemic preparedness.

what matters--emergency shelter:  And with a chill in the air, United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County has again coordinated resources in support of Combined Area Resources for Emergency Shelter or C.A.R.E.S. As the name implies, C.A.R.E.S. is an emergency shelter service open to area citizens who don't have shelter from the elements.

For the
shelter rotation shedule or information contact Shari Bellish, Director of C.A.R.E.S. at 45 South West Street, 1st Floor, Carlisle, call 717-249-1009 or visit cares.carlislegrace.org.

what matters--heating assistance: United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County is pleased to again offer heating assistance to low income individuals and families.
This program is made possible through the generosity of the Carlisle Area Health & Wellness Foundation.

what matters—tax reparation assistance:  Through the Money in Your Pocket Campaign, funded by PNC Bank, United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County is again working with area organizations and volunteers to provide free tax preparation services, insuring that low income wage earners receive the full refund entitled them.  Working with a variety of local, state and federal organizations, workers between the ages of 25-64 who meet certain income requirements may qualify for this service.

what matters everyday:  Though perhaps best known for our annual campaign, this is just one way in which United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County works to fulfill our mission. In 2007 this United Way was able to provide funding to 27 area organizations meeting some of our region's most pressing needs. Through funded programs and services we are helping to build strong families, working to increase self-sufficiency and independence, meeting emergency needs and promoting youth development.  You may find additional information about United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County and our funded programs here or contact Kate Brazel at United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County by calling 717-243-4805
