The Early Childhood Initiative of United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County

Success By 6, the program initiative of United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County announces their Pre-Kindergarten Tax Credit Program.  This program allows businesses to support United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County-Success By 6, show their concern for families and take advantage of this tax credit opportunity at the same time.

Success By 6 seeks to bring together all segments of our community – families, business, government, labor, education and social service agencies – to help children get off to a positive start in life.   A Leadership Council has been formed to develop ongoing Success By 6 initiatives such as early literacy, school readiness, quality early care and education, wellness, parenting education and advocacy.  Our team structure is available for you to view. The teams meet throughout the year and the schedule is available.  

School Readiness Calendars are Available...
To help parents prepare their children for kindergarten, United Way of Carlisle & Cumberland County developed a school readiness calendar of year-round activities for four and five year olds.

Professional Development...
Through its Success By 6 initiative, child development experts, school district leaders and library professionals joined forces to identify kindergarten readiness skills as a basis for the calendar. These skills – such as recognizing letters, numbers and patterns as well as social/emotional development - became monthly “themes” complete with fun daily activities to reinforce each skill.  Parents of children who will be entering kindergarten next year are able to obtain the calendar through the county library system. 

PA Promise for Children...
is a coordinated statewide campaign to raise awareness about the value of quality early learning for all of our young children and build responsibility among every Pennsylvanian for the early learning of the young children in their lives.
